Northern Excursion

Jeanie, Just north of the Bay

This is the short pictorial of a weekend away, back in 2001. (this page was made then...)   We took a couple of days off for a short getaway.

We left Friday, early afternoon and headed across the Golden Gate, over Mt. Tamalpias and up the coast on Highway 1.

Some coastal inlet at sunset...

We stopped a couple of times along the way to enjoy the view and take some pictures.   This would be our first couple of pictures on the left here...

(all pictures taken using my digital camera, I'll keep you all posted after we get the pictures developed from Jeanies camera)

This Yellow building was our Hotel...

The next day we took a walk around the Mendocino coastline. Here's a shot of our Hotel (yellow building) the Mendocino Hotel and Garden Restaurant.

 Mendocino Bay...

There is a view of the Bay and coastline.  This is similar to the the view from the front of the Hotel (but this was taken right by the waters edge)

It's cold...(but we are Leaving)

On Sunday we are just leaving Mendocino to head toward Napa. Good thing too, it is now windy and quite cold.  Saturday was chilly, but still nice enough to walk around.  Today is so windy I was worried the tri-pod would blow over.  (Jeanie and I both like the tripod she got for x-mas)

California's Old faithful (Napa Valley)

Later in the day Sunday, we have now traveled southeast on Highway 128 to reach the Napa Valley. More inland of course, and much warmer.  Note the picture at California's Old Faithful Geyser.  Somewhere north of Napa and St Helena, near Calistoga and Geyser, CA.

Old grist mill water wheel

A little further south, on the way to Napa we stopped at the historic Bale Grist Mill. We somehow managed to catch it on a day it was operating.  An old park ranger runs it for show, and they have a little gift shop where you can buy various stone ground wheat and cornmeal .  We picked up some cornmeal and a recipe for cornbread.

Some The fields around MUMM Champaignery

Finally our trip is almost at an end.  It is now Monday and we are driving back up the valley a bit to check out some of the wineries.  We stopped at the MUMM Napa Valley 'Champaignery'  (is that a word?)

We tasted some sparkling wine, took a tour of the winery and bought some MUMM Cuvee Napa, Methode Champenoise, sparkling wine. Afterwards we walked around a little and took this last picture.

We then drove a little ways across the valley to the Beaulieu Vineyards in Rutherford. I tasted a little more wine, and we went on their tour, ending of course in the gift shop, where we bought a little more wine to take home.

At last that is about everything. We made it home Monday night around 9:00PM and then prepared for work the next day.
